چکیده

In this paper, employing transaction level data for Russian imports, we explore the role of multi-product shipments in explaining shipping patterns across countries. our data, an average shipment includes five different products. We document that firms from higher income countries on include a larger number products into single and have per period with lower quantity value. then propose mechanism reconciles both facts. Specifically, allow to split fixed costs many and, therefore, reduce total costs. As result, tend shipment. Finally, construct simple partial equilibrium model enables us quantify potential increases trade volumes welfare created by option. This article is protected copyright. All rights reserved.

Menu Costs, Posted Prices, and Multiproduct Retailers*

We use a unique store-level data set to directly measure menu costs and to study the price change process at a large U.S. drugstore chain. We compare and contrast the magnitude of these measures with similar measures from 4 large U.S. supermarket chains. We find that (1) the actual magnitude of menu costs as a share of revenues, (2) menu costs per price change, (3) the frequent use of promotion...

Multiproduct Firms, Information, and Loyalty * Multiproduct Firms, Information, and Loyalty

This study provides evidence that the portfolio of products offered by a multiproduct firm affects consumer purchase decisions with respect to each of its products. We present a theory that explains this empirical regularity. The theory involves revising the information set of consumers to include the profile of multiproduct firms. We show that revising the information set in this way introduce...

Multiproduct Systems with Both Setup Times and Costs: Fluid Bounds and Schedules

This paper considers a multi-product, single-server production system where both setup times and costs are incurred whenever the server changes product. The system is make-to-order with a per unit backlogging cost. The objective is to minimize the long-run average cost per unit time. Using a fluid model, we provide a closed-form lower bound on system performance. This bound is also shown to pro...

The Impact of Trade Costs on Firm Entry, Exporting, and Survival in Korea

This study uses a unique firm-level dataset to examine how falling trade costs from 1993-2001 affected entry, exit, productivity, and exporting in the Korean manufacturing sector. We verify many of the predictions of recent heterogeneous-firm models of international trade. For example, falling trade costs reduced entry by new Korean firms, increased their probability of exit, and reduced the ma...
